Outdoor Club Activities

Posted in Club Info, Club Members

Spring has finally arrived and its time to begin shooting outdoors.  The club is operating on the normal outdoor practice schedule, more information can be found at this link Schedule.

The outdoor practice schedule is made possible by Peewee and the range captains.  All of the range captains volunteer their time to open the club for the members, if you would like information on becoming a range captain speak with Peewee on Friday or Saturday.

Big thanks to Keith and the Tournament Committee for running our great outdoor tournaments.  These events attract archers from surrounding states so we must be doing something right.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with field setup and club activities.  Speak with  any board member if you would like help out.

The club also offers scholarship opportunities for high school students, a major component to earn a scholarship is volunteering within the club.

Have a great summer.

As the summer winds down and the leaves begin to change our Premium Membership option is something to consider.

The Indoor Range located in Glen Cove provides a private setting to keep practicing through the cold winter months.

Contact us for more information on the range and how to upgrade to Premium Membership.

The last outdoor practice session is September 29th.

Range Captains

I wanted to say THANK YOU!! to all of the Cedar Creek range captains.

With your support, Nassau Bowmen continues to be a great benefit to the archers of Long Island.

A few things about this dedicated group.

The Cedar Creek range captains volunteer their free time to open the club for all the members.

The range captains became Lvl-II coaches to ensure the range is operate in a safe manner.

PeeWee who is in charge of the range captains works with them to ensure our publicized schedule has coverage.

Weekend range captains also help new shooters on their first time trying archery.

Thank a range captain the next time you are on the range.

Talk with PeeWee or Myself for information about becoming range captain or volunteering with the club

Thank You

Joe McGlyn

NYS and the county parks department have lifted Covid Restrictions for our tournaments.

As a result the Board of Directors approved expanding the number of archers at our events to 60 participants.

Our events will return to a normal format, 4 archers per target with AB and CD line.

Anyone who contacted the tournament director for a wait list position have been added to the events.

The archery season has begun so we can have some fun in the sun.

Club Practices are available Wednesday and Friday from 4 pm to dusk.  Saturday and Sunday practices are from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We are encouraging everyone to wear a mask while you are not actively shooting.  We expect everyone to respect social distancing norms while on the range.

We have the following events remaining for the year.

  • Tri State JOAD Championship on Sunday July 12th.
  • Summer Slam Saturday August 1st.
  • President’s Cup Saturday August 29th.
  • Club Championships Saturday 19th.

The club hopes to expand registrations beyond 24 for the remaining 3 events.   The Board of Directors will evaluate each competition based on NYS Guidelines and directives from USA Archery.

I want to thank everyone who volunteers their time to be a range captain and everyone on the tournament committee.  Your generosity and volunteerism helps to foster target archery on Long Island.

What a year!

2018 has been a great year for the club.

The club successfully ran the NY State Outdoor State Champions in Old Westbury NY.  We want to thank all the members who volunteered and dedicated time to the event.  Without your assistance we would not been able to pull this one off.  Thank You.

Many of our members have traveled to USAT events this year with great results.  You can find many of the them at the range on a regular basis.

The club championship is only weeks away.  Stay tuned for updates.

If want to want to volunteer or become more active in the leadership of the club, please talk with one of the board members.   We are always looking for assistance or new ideas for the club.

See you on the range

Joe McGlyn
